Kugita Seafood & Charcoal Grill: Your Eco-friendly Restaurant in Moalboal

Once you see nature at its best, you become responsible for it. This is what usually happens to most outdoorsmen who took by heart their love for environment. The same goes with the man behind Moalboal’s newly-opened restaurant – Kugita Seafood and Charcoal Grill.

After moving from Iligan City, Chef Jay Garife, conceptualized a more sustainable way of running a restaurant by patronizing local produce and going forth for renewable resources. His experience of working with Erwan Heussaff and Kris Aquino allowed him to become more creative with his dishes. So last December 2019, he opened Kugita Seafood and Charcoal Grill in one of Cebu’s prime destination, Basdiot, Moalboal.

Aside from supporting the locals of Moalboal, the restaurant also advocates the sustainability of resources by supporting the plastic-free movement. As of the movement, they are trying to partner with local brands that can supply bamboo fiber straw. Moreover, they are pursuing the plan of reducing carbon footprints by aiming for 60% use of renewable resources through the installation of solar panels as source of energy.
