The coronavirus pandemic made us more aware of the importance of our health workers who are working now in the frontlines. To ensure the adequate supply of service-oriented human resources of health who are willing to serve the unserved, underserved, hard to reach, economically underdeveloped, distressed, conflict, and geographically isolated, and disadvantaged areas of the country, the Department of Health now offers a Pre-Service Scholarship Program for Priority Allied Health Course – particularly for incoming first year Medicine and Midwifery students this School Year 2020 – 2021.

Requirements for Medicine and Midwifery Scholarship Grant

This Scholarship Grant for Medicine and Midwifery for 2021 is offered – in coordination with the Centers for Health Development and Partner School – to deserving and qualified students. Interested applicants must be able to comply the following requirements:

  • Birth Certificate (or any proof of Filipino Citizenship)
  • Physically and Mentally Fit
  • Good moral Character issued by the Barangay or School
  • Certification of Acceptance from Partner School (have passed the admission requirements, standards and policies of chosen school, other requirements of DOH)
  • Affidavit of No Existing Scholarship Grants
  • BIR Annual Filing of Tax of Both Parents or BIR Tax Exemption Certificate
  • Barangay Certificate (as proof of residence)
  • Other certifications in support for application (Certificate of Employment of Parents, NCIP Certificate, Certificate from LDRRMO or DSWD)

Application and Selection Process for DOH Pre-Service Scholarship Program

Here are the steps to follow in order to apply for the DOH Pre-Service Scholarship Program:

  1. Applicants shall apply to the DOH partner school of choice – preferably within or near province or region of residence. Applicant shall undergo and pass the screening and selection process as defined by the partner school for admission to the program/course.
  2. The partner school shall endorse the list of qualified applicants to the DOH Center for Health Development within the region for further evaluation and validation.
  3. DOH Center for Health Development shall endorse the result of validation and recommendation to HHRDB for evaluation and recommendation to the PSSP Committee.
  4. The HHRDB shall endorse the list of approved/accepted scholars to concerned DOH Centers for Health Development.

Benefits of DOH Pre-Service Scholarship Program

Eligible and accepted applicants under the DOH Pre-Service Scholarship Program can enjoy the following benefits of the school year 2020-2021:

Medicine

  • Free tuition fee for Government-partner school
  • P100,000 or the actual tuition, and all related school fees per Academic Year whichever is lower for each scholar enrolled in the Private-partner School
  • 75% of the actual tuition, and all related school fees, if more than P140,000 per Academic Year whichever is lower for each scholar enrolled in the Private-partner School
  • Book Allowance of P24, 200
  • Uniform Allowance of P6,050
  • Miscellaneous Allowance of P11,000
  • Living Subsidy of P54,000
  • Lodging Allowance of P36,000
  • Transportation Allowance of P10,560
  • Annual Medical Insurance (PHIC) of P3,600
  • Summer Immersion Program and Transportation Expenses of P18,000
  • Board Exam Review and Fee of P15,000

Midwifery

  • Free tuition fee for Government-partner school
  • P40,000 or the actual tuition, laboratory and other fees whichever is lower per scholar
  • P10,000 for summer classes or actual tuition, laboratory and other fees per scholar
  • Book Allowance of P20,000
  • Uniform Allowance of P5,000
  • Miscellaneous Allowance of P11,000
  • Living Subsidy of P54,000
  • Lodging Allowance of P36,000
  • Transportation Allowance of P10,560
  • Annual Medical Insurance (PHIC) of P3,600
  • Board Exam Review and Fee of P8,000
