A newly opened hip and funky hostel, with a bar on the rooftop. I have a feeling this Mad Monkey Hostel is going to quickly become the top hostel in Cebu in 2019. This definitely is for the young and party-loving backpackers. Their rooms are clean and comfortable, air-conditioned with en-suite bathrooms and personal lockers to keep guests’ valuables safe.
Mad Monkey has a very nice and spacious rooftop – with a bar, gaming area, infinity pool and a sun deck. Guests can also enjoy meals from their restaurant and my-my I checked their page and their food looks so delicious! The hostel provides great views over the city and is a sociable space to bond and meet other travelers.

Don’t be fooled by the old facade of this guesthouse. Le Village Hostel is another favorite of young backpackers, budget-travelers and party-goers from around the globe. They have bunk-bed type dorm rooms – which reminds me of a college dorm; as well as comfy and spacious private rooms.
The hostel is best known among young travelers because of the party atmosphere – there’s a social event almost every night. House guests come to gather in their patio to socialize and play drinking games. Looking at the photos on their page, I can definitely say their hosts are super fun and entertaining. No doubt the guests would wanna keep coming back for all that fun. It’s true what they say – Le Village Hostel is a place where strangers become friends!

I am truly digging the vibes on this one. Everything about the place says “relax and chill while you’re here, we got you!”. Hostel Seven‘s appearance makes it look like it’s a hostel by the beach, except you’re in the middle of the concrete jungle of Cebu. Their rooms, the bar and everything else has that rustic minimalist feels. I especially love that rooftop terrace – such a nice spot to do some work and have a cup of coffee or tea.
The hostel is also known in Cebu as a good chill/ hangout spot because of its night life – booze, music and meeting positive people is what you’ll get here. Locals and hostel guests definitely have a good time in here. See for yourself! 😉

The first ever posh, trendy and Japanese-inspired capsule hostel in Cebu, the Shejoje Poshtel Hostel. The owners were inspired when they went on a trip to Japan – they stayed in a capsule hostel. These budget-friendly accommodation was so comfortable and stylish, it made them want to have their own version of the hostel when they get back to Cebu.
This was their way of helping backpackers, travelers and adventurers in spending their nights in the city. This kawaii hostel is very affordable, clean and complete when it comes to amenities – hot & cold shower, light breakfast, free wi-fi and lounge, dressing room and safe lockers for guests’ luggages. Ooooh! I love the neat appearance of this whole place – the combination of a lot of white and green accents is always so pleasing to me. Plus the modest murals and artworks on the wall. Murals Hostel & Cafe is an ideal place for Digital Nomads – who enjoy traveling, meeting new people and working at the same time. The hostel comes with a nice coworking space and cafe – intended for today’s world traveler slash remote workers.
When you come stay here, they got free breakfast, all-day yummy coffee and high speed internet at 100mbps. Just reading that last sentence makes me wanna live in this hostel. Ahh! 🙂 The Daily Grind Coffee Shop is also within the hostel and they have regular acoustic nights every weekend. Looks like a great spot to chill with friends – in the afternoon and the evenings too.

This is where you’ll find a whole lot of nature in the middle of the urbanized area of Cebu. Bugoy Bikers Hostel is a tropical oasis in the city and is considered to be the coziest hostel in town. Most probably the only hostel in the city with huts/ kubos offered as accommodations for guests – it’s very traditional and makes you feel like you’re in the rural areas for a while.
Established in 2010, it’s a spacious old wooden house with a nice garden area – turned into a warm and home-like hostel for guests from all over the world. The hostel has a dorm room, private rooms and bamboo huts in the garden area. Recently they just set up hammocks for guests to sleep and relax in. The chilling in the hammock sounds so cozy and they also has a bamboo shower. Guests can choose to shower under the blue skies or the pretty night skies.
For the more adventurous guests, the hostel offers bicycle and outdoor tours. Depending on guests’ preference, the tours can take up to 2 to 4 weeks of outdoor fun – diving, snorkeling, canyoneering, surfing, kite surfing or ATV rides – they got you covered! They also serve good simple food like Burgers, Salads and Sandwiches and guests can cook in their kitchen too.

Who’d have thought one would find such a cool place downtown anymore? 😍 They only opened on the 15th of February this year – Happy Nest Hostel is the newest hostel in Cebu. It’s located near Pier 1, which makes it a nice place to spend the night in before taking the ferry to nearby islands such as Ormoc, Bohol, Dumaguete and others.
The owners decided the name Happy Nest because of its ‘happy location’ plus the hostel has that modern tropical feels and complete amenities – which ensures happy guests! They offer both mixed and female-only dorm rooms that are air-conditioned and really affordable. Plus their bathrooms are so nice – hot & cold shower, clean sinks and toilets with bidets. There is also a restaurant and bar where guests can enjoy their meals, coffee and beer – and also socialize with other guests.
What I like most about this hostel is how it’s close to a lot of must-see places downtown like the Sto. Niño Church, Fort San Pedro and many other historical buildings in town. It’s a really nice way for travelers to see the roots of Cebu, not to mention trying out some of our street foods and shopping in the cheap stores nearby.
The hostels happy price is an overnight stay for one – for only PHP 450 to PHP 600 a night. That’s the same rate for the mixed and female-only dorms. Do check their Facebook page for more information.

Another cozy and neat looking hostel – Down South Hostel located very close to the city’s buzzing night life in Mango Avenue. The hostel has a mix of contemporary and vintage design all over, which is very appealing. It may be right in the heart of the city, yet the hostel provides a quiet and laid back atmosphere for guests. It’s location is great since cars and public vehicles don’t always pass by that road. No street noises – surely you can get a much needed good night’s rest here.
The room choices are between dorm rooms and also private rooms for up to 3 guests. Although there is no in-house restaurant, guests are very much welcome to cook and utilize the hostel’s kitchen. There is a mini store where guests can buy snacks and some toiletries, and restaurants are just a 10 to 15 minute walk from the place. There is a nice deck outside where guests can chill, read a book or have some wine with friends.

Last but not the least, this all-dorms rustic-themed hostel in Juana Osmeña is worth checking out too – Bunks Hostel. The place is very basic when it comes to their amenities but it’s great for low-budget solo travelers or even groups. Dorm rooms has wi-fi and air-conditioning. They have a small common area and roof deck for guests to sit, relax and meet other solo backpackers.
The location of the hostel is similar to Down South, it’s also close to Mango Avenue. Just walking distance to nearby restaurants, fast food diners and also bars. Children up to 12 years can stay for free if using existing bedding. Extra beds may be requested directly from the hostel and of course additional charges may apply.
