In the southwestern part of the island of Cebu, approximately 126 km from the city is a sleepy little town called Malabuyoc. It may be quite simple and quiet here but there are nice things to see and do here. The town has natural attractions such as hot springs and waterfalls.
For those who plan to visit the town of Malabuyoc and are looking for accommodation, the perfect little place for you would be Kawayan Marine Resort. The place has 11 guest rooms that are basic and standard – not too fancy, not shabby either.
The term Kawayan translates to bamboo, and that’s what the owners have used in the construction of this resort. Hence the name. Not only are guests able to have a refreshing time here, just relaxing and enjoying the ocean view from the resort. There are also a lot of water activities you guys can enjoy and arrange with the management.
I personally love the fact that they went for a rustic, native vibe for the place. It doesn’t appear too commercialized or too much. Because I believe you really don’t need all those fancy things when you want to enjoy yourself at the beach. Just a simple room with a bed and a restroom for breaks should be enough.
At the Kawayan Marine Resort, they can also cook meals for you like breakfast, with an additional charge. I like that guests can enjoy their meals, right by the beach and sip their yummy coffee enjoying the fresh sea breeze.
I spoke with one of their management staff and I asked about the diving activity at the resort, he told me they no longer offer it. Since they have moved their diving shop along with all their equipment to Mactan. However, guests can still go diving in the area – provided that they take their own equipments with them.
There are a lot of things one can do while staying here, like dolphin watching Tanon Strait, go kayaking, canoeing, snorkeling and discover colorful fishes, corals, and giant clams. Go explore caves, go hiking and tour the town’s mountains, springs, and waterfalls; as well as of the neighboring towns.
At night, you’ll get to enjoy stargazing and the sound of waves rushing to shore will put you to sleep in the cozy and spacious bamboo rooms built on stilts above the sea. Sounds absolutely relaxing.
As for the rates, the fan rooms including the ones that are above the water/ floating ones – Php 1,000 a night. The Kawayan Marine Malabuyoc currently only has one airconditioned room and the rate is Php 1,500 a night. All the rooms are good for 3 persons.
The hostel offers tours to the falls and other natural attractions for Php 500. Guests can also rent the kayak for Php 200 an hour, and the canoe for Php 100 an hour.
