Recently I’ve written about this eco-friendly place down south in Moalboal called the Tongo Hill Cottages. This time we’ll be going north and we’ll be learning about this similarly cozy, nature-inspired and a place that’s also focused on sustainability – Neverland in Malapascua.
The beach in Malapascua is really something – constantly beautiful day and night, untouched and filled with abundant marine life. You can go shark diving and meet many thresher sharks here; as well as stingrays, hammerhead, grey reef, and whitetip sharks.
The sweet thing about my job as a writer is that I get to learn and write about good things, places, and people. Being a writer doesn’t feel like a job by the way because I love what I’m doing. 🙂 And here in Neverland Malapascua, I can definitely say the people behind their unconventional lodging and accommodation – are filled with good intentions.

Not only do they provide a cozy and practical yet really cute teepee inspired huts, but the hosts also facilitate beach clean-ups and they have set up an area where guests can make art, teach and learn a talent – maybe painting, dancing or playing the guitar. I think it’s such a nice way for the hosts and guests to connect.
The hosts make sure that each room or huts (with a queen-size bed, mosquito net, and a fan) always have fresh linens, clean towels, toiletries, earplugs, and a yoga mat. They also have a shared outdoor bamboo shower with hot water and waterfall style shower head.
Travelers come from all over to stay and volunteer with them in their community and school projects. Guests are always welcome to join and help out. Many local kids come to Neverland to play and interact with the guests. They also have a cat named Tinkerbell, four kittens, a dog named Zia and a puppy named Mango – a cute bunch!
It’s great how the hosts of Neverland promote a holistic lifestyle to their guests, as well as the locals in Malapascua. They offer free morning activities such as yoga, acro yoga, morning meditation, and other workout sessions. They also serve a full vegan menu for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Not only do they promote a holistic lifestyle but they also share their knowledge and raise awareness among the locals. Twice a week, volunteers go to the local school to play games and teach kids different lesson plans. On Wednesdays is their beach clean up with the local school, the kids help with collecting the trash from the beach. Volunteers help in teaching them about the proper ways of separating garbage and as well as recycling.
I really like what they are doing here as a little community, being mindful of what they put in their bodies. As well as what they put out into the world, trying to minimize the damage humans have caused our poor oceans over time. It’s all refreshing and I’m grateful for these kinds of people. Imagine if we all were to think and act the same, right? Imagine how wonderful that would be. ♡
Guests can stay in Neverland for PHP 1,500 a night. There are 10 huts, each made from bamboo and nipa leaves. Toilet and bath is shared – outdoor showers. Check-in time is at 3 PM and check-out time is at 1 PM.
