Interested applicants can now apply for the GBF TeachSTEM Scholarship Program which fully provides support to aspiring teachers through college degree scholarships and current teachers through master’s degree scholarships. On top of supporting scholars, this also grants opportunities that empower educators to cultivate a STEM-oriented culture among Filipino learners and educational stakeholders.

Until July 31, GBF is accepting applications for the TeachSTEM College Scholarship and Master’s Scholarship. Here’s what you have to know about these scholarship programs:

  1. GBF TeachSTEM College Scholarship

Geared to prepare and equip aspiring teachers to become competent educators and STEM champions to provide students with an environment where they can thrive and engage in meaningful and enriching learning experiences, the GBF TeachSTEM College Scholarship grants a fixed annual amount of P65,000 for scholars in state universities and P85,000 for scholars in private universities.

Qualified Degree Programs available include Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in Math (BSEd Math), Science (BSEd Sci)​, Biology, Physics​, and Chemistry; Bachelor of Elementary Education Major in Science and Mathematics​, Mathematics (BEEd Math)​, Science and Health Education​, General Education, General Curriculum, and Early Education; Information Technology Courses, such as Bachelor of Information, Technology (BITED) with Certificate in Elem, Junior HS & Senior HS Teaching​, Technology and Livelihood Economics, Technology and Livelihood Education, Major in Information and Communication Technology​; and Technical-Vocational Teacher Educ Courses such as Bachelor of Technical Vocational Major in Drafting Technology, Civil Technology and Construction Technology​, Electronics Technology​, Automotive Technology​, Construction Technology​, Computer Systems Servicing​, Heating, Ventilating and Air-conditioning Technology​, Mechanical Technology​, Computer Programming​, Civil Technology​, Electrical Technology, and Computer Hardware Servicing.

  1. GBF TeachSTEM Master’s Degree Scholarship

On the other hand, the GBF TeachSTEM Master’s Scholarship Program aspires to provide practicing educators with opportunities for the advancement of critical knowledge to enable them to transform and reform educational practices, policies, and institutions in the future. Grantees will receive a fixed annual grant amount of P45,000 for scholars in state universities and P65,000 for scholars in private universities.

Programs that are currently supported by the program include the Master of Arts/Science in Education major in Biology Education, Chemistry Education, Physical Education, General Education, Advance Science Education, Mathematics, Secondary Mathematics, Non-Formal Education, Tech-Voc Teaching (Major in STEM), and Special Education.

The financial grant received by the scholars will be sent directly to their bank accounts and may be used for educational expenses like tuition, books, supplies, living expenses, and the conduct of research. Teachers will also be provided with access to capacity-building programs, such as leadership, upskilling, and subject content, and a chance to be part of an educator’s community.

What are the Requirements for the GBF Scholarship Grant?

For GBF TeachSTEM College Scholarship

  1. Incoming or ongoing college student taking a course in Education with a specialization in STEM-related fields, Technical Vocational Program, or General Education;
  2. Enrolled or planning to enroll in a Tertiary Education Institution with LET performance above the national average;
  3. Got no failed, dropped, or incomplete grades in the previous academic year (for senior high applications, present academic records from Grades 11 and 12 for evaluation)
  4. Have a general weighted average of at least eighty-five percent (85%) or its equivalent from the previous academic year (for senior high school, present GWA from Grade 11);
  5. Has involvement in extracurricular activities or community activities;
  6. Willing to teach in a public school in their community after graduation;
  7. Must be of good moral standing. Must have no existing disciplinary case;
  8. Must require financial support to complete studies;
  9. Preferably not a recipient of other scholarships; and
  10. Must be in good health.

If you’ve met the aforementioned qualifications, here are the documents that you have to secure for your application:

  1. Fully accomplished application form
  2. Proof of Enrollment/Admission
    • For incoming college students, submit Proof of Admission and Letter of Intent to Enroll
    • For ongoing college students, submit a Certificate of Registration from the current semester OR Letter of Intent to Enroll in the next semester
  3. Certified True Copy of Grades
    • For incoming college students, submit Grades 11 and 12 (available quarters) academic records
    • For ongoing college students, submit 2 most recent consecutive semesters
  4. Official Grading System of University or School
  5. Portfolio reflecting one’s community involvement and its impact on the community
  6. Certificate of Good Moral Character from the ​current year 
  7. Proof of household income
    • For employed parents/guardians (submit one of the following): Certificate of Employment with position and salary OR latest ITR OR BIR 2316
    • For unemployed parents/guardians: BIR Tax exemption certificate obtained from LGU
  8. Proof of residence:
    • Photo of residence AND
    • Proof of Billing OR Barangay Certificate
  9. ID Picture on a white background (2×2)

For GBF TeachSTEM Master’s Degree Scholarship

  1. Must have at least 1-year teaching experience (in either public or private school with the intent to teach as a K-12 public school teacher of Science or Math or a tertiary level instructor/professor of any STEM-related subject or course);
  2. Must be a model of teaching excellence, innovativeness, care for learners, and commitment to serve;
  3. Must be an incoming or ongoing MA student in education specializing in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM), Alternative Learning Systems, TechVoc training, or Special Education (if already enrolled, the applicant must NOT be in the comprehensive exam or thesis stage of his/her graduate studies and is enrolled with at least 6 units);
  4. Must have a weighted grade of at least 2.0 or its equivalent from the previously enrolled academic year;
  5. Must be enrolled in TEIs within or above the national average LET performance;
  6. Must have no failed, incomplete, or dropped grades from the previous semester (those with incomplete, dropped, or failed subjects can be admitted as long as they can present proof of completion of the said subject);
  7. Must have at least a “Satisfactory” rating in teaching performance from the previous year;
  8. Must be of good moral standing with no existing disciplinary case at the university he/she enrolled in and at the public school he/she is teaching;
  9. Must require financial support to complete his/her studies;
  10. Preferably not a recipient of other scholarships; and
  11.  Must be in good health.

For teachers who are inspired to further their studies, here are the documents that need to be submitted to comply with the GBF Master’s Scholarship Grant:

  1. Fully accomplished application form
  2. Proof of Enrollment
    • For incoming MA students, submit Proof of admission in the TEI and Letter of Intent to enroll in the next semester
    • For ongoing MA students, submit Certificate of registration for the current semester enrolled with at least 6 units and letter of intent to enroll in the next semester
  3. Certified true copy of grades
    • For incoming MA students, submit Transcript of Records either from the entire undergradute or at least two most recent consecutive semesters
    • For ongoing MA students, submit Certified True Copy of grades from the previous academic year or at least two most recent consecutive semesters from the college where the applicant is enrolled in
  4. Bachelor’s Degree Diploma
  5. Curriculum plan
    • For incoming MA students, submit the complete course curriculum (from coursework, comprehensive exam to thesis)
    • For ongoing MA students, submit subjects to take after the current semester (from coursework, comprehensive exam to thesis)
  6. Certificate of Good Moral Character from the current year from the attended TEI and from the school where he/she is employed in
  7. Performance rating for the previous year from the current employer school
  8. Certificate of Employment with Rank and Salary
  9. Proof of residence:
    • Photo of Residence AND
    • Proof of Billing OR Barangay Certificate
  10. PRC ID (Licensed Professional Teacher)

Following the July 31 deadline, the selection process will be initiated, involving a comprehensive review of applications and eligibility screening. The submitted portfolios will undergo evaluation, followed by a live online exam to assess the candidates.
