USC is the Best School in Cebu? YES According to “QS 2021 Ranking”

Among the schools in Cebu, only the University of San Carlos was able to get listed as one of the best schools in Asia, based on the 2021 Quacquarelli Symonds Asia University Rankings. The University of the Philippines ranked 69th among 650 participating schools, while there were other 12 that made it to the list.

Indicators used in University Rankings

To be part of the list of the best schools in Asia, universities were ranked following the 11 indicators – that were weighted according to their importance in the index. It follows the same methodologies used for the QS World Universities rankings. These include the following:

  • Academic Reputation – 30%
  • Employer Reputation – 20%
  • Faculty-student Ratio – 10%
  • International Research Network – 10%
  • Citations per Paper – 10%
  • Papers per Faculty – (5%)
  • Staff with a PhD – (5%)
  • International Faculty – (2.5%)
  • International Students – (2.5%)
  • Inbound Exchange Students – (2.5%)
  • Outbound Exchange Students – (2.5%)

University of San Carlos: Top University Outside Metro Manila

The University of San Carlos has been consistently part of the best universities in Asia (since 2017). It is one of the top universities outside Metro Manila, alongside Silliman University, Ateneo de Davao University, Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology, Central Mindanao State University, and Xavier University.

USC ranked 5th among the top schools in the country and 1st among universities outside Metro Manila. At present, it ranks in the 451 – 500 compared to its former position at 301 – 350 in 2017. The university continues to strive for excellence with its international linkages and a steady influx of foreign students and visiting professors – making it a multicultural academic community bonded by the common pursuit for global standards.

For the 2021 Asian University Ranking, the National University of Singapore remains in the top spot. It is followed by Tsinghua University of Mainland China, Nanyang Technological University (Singapore), University of Hong Kong, and Zhejiang University (Mainland China).
