SPOTLIGHT: Margielyn Didal is PSA’s “Athlete of the Year”

A great show of women power has been highlighted on this year’s Philippine Sportwriters Association Annual Awards Nights held last February 26 at the Manila Hotel. It was the first time in almost a decade that PSA chose an all-female recipient of the “Athlete of the Year” Award.

Cebu’s pride Margielyn Didal, together with Weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz and golfers Yuka Saso, Bianca Pagdanganan and Lois Kaye Go, received the recognition for making the country proud after winning 4 gold medals in the 18th Asian Games in Indonesia last year. It can be remembered that the 19 year old skateboarder bagged gold on the women’s street skate category – allowing here to bring home P6M cash incentive.

Didal shared during the event how surprised she was upon knowing that she would be earning such award knowing that people don’t usually give much credit to skateboarding. Not only that they are giving her the spotlight, she also received an additional award.

Currently, Didal has been training in the skateparks of Hong Kong in preparation for the Olympics qualifiers two months from now in London. She’s confident that all the support given and her dedication to her chosen sports will bring her bigger achievements for the country.
