With so many websites, blogs, and
article spinners hovering around the internet, how do you separate the real
information from the fake ones? To solve this, Google came up with a system
that provides a simple way to broadly search for scholarly literature across
all disciplines – from articles to theses, books, abstracts, court opinions,
academic publishers, professional societies, online repositories, and
universities. This means of finding relevant and highly reliable work across
the world of scholarly research is made possible through Google Scholar. Compared to you regular Google search, Google
Scholar allows you to access the same kinds of scholarly books, articles, and
documents that you can search in the Library’s catalog and databases. It gives
the most relevant results to whatever it is that you are searching based on the
item’s full text, author, source, and the number of times it has been cited in
other sources.

Part of Google Scholar’s system
is the Google Scholar Citation – a
tool that allows authors to voluntarily setup profiles and their publications.Through
this, authors can easily track citations of their articles – who’s citing the
publication, graph citation, and even compute citation metrics. This year,
Webometrics, the online ranking system for the world’s universities based on
web content and visibility, came up with the list of Top Universities by
Citations in Google Scholar Profiles.

Top Universities in the Philippines in Google Scholar Profiles

Among the ranked universities around the world, eight universities in the Philippines made it to the Webometrics Ranking of the World Universities.
