The\nplan of grooming the Municipality of Cordova to becoming \u201cThe Sentosa of Cebu\u201d\nis slowly taking progress as the proposed 1,500 hectares reclamation project\nhas been announced to finally push through. This announcement was done online\nlast July 9 after SM Prime Holdings Inc. made known to the local government\nthat they are renewing their commitment of investing in the municipality. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nMunicipality of Cordova is a third-class municipality that borders Lapu-lapu\nCity on the south of Mactan Island. It owns one of the biggest seagrass beds in\nthe country \u2013 the 3,500 hectares foreshore land \u2013 which is the target\nreclamation site for this project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In\nan interview, Cordova Mayor Mary Therese Sitoy-Cho confirmed that the\nconsultants from SMPH \u2013 the real-estate arm of SM Investments Corporation \u2013\ninformed them of the corporation\u2019s plans of proceeding with the next stage of\nthe project which is the detailed engineering design. SM already asked\npermission and approval from the local government, Department of Environment\nand Natural Resources, and Philippine Reclamation Authority to bid the DED to a\ncontractor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\n1,500 Hectares Reclamation in Cordova is estimated to be completed by 2028 and\nwould be composed of four artificially-made islands \u2013 which will be developed\ninto a world-class lifestyle destination that would feature a cruise terminal,\nmarina, beach, eco-parks, golf course, churches, retail centers, civic centers,\ncultural centers, and promenades with inland transportation consisting of buses\nand a train with a railroad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This\nwill be built near the 10,000 Roses Caf\u00e9 and the third Cebu-Mactan Bridge. The\nactual civil works for this multi-billion public-private partnership project is\nestimated to start in between 2022 to 2023. However, further consultations need\nto be done first, particularly with Cordova\u2019s fishing communities, before the\nconstruction can commence as part of the agreement requires coordination not\nonly with the LGU but as well as with the townspeople \u2013 who will undeniably be\naffected with this project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
