Let\u2019s admit it: our knowledge on Philippine folklore, particularly Visayan folklore, is quite vague and limited. Most of what we know consist of speculations which we can somehow attribute to two contributing factors \u2013 our ancestors during the pre-Hispanic times wrote on barks of trees and bamboo segments which can\u2019t resist destruction over time and those surviving Filipino writings weren\u2019t spared from the wrath of Spanish missionaries who connect these literatures with pagan religion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But Philippine Folklore is not limited to written narratives. There\u2019s another subdivision which lasted through generations: verbal folklore \u2013 which includes folk speech, proverbs, riddles, myths, legends, folk epic, genealogical tale, and folktales. Aside from these, we also have social folk customs and material folklore which we have unknowingly practiced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
