There’s a trend going viral over TikTok right now: “When did you realize that your family is poor?” A simple question, yet it has gained massive responses because it cuts deep, making us reflect on life’s disparities.

For some, it’s the stark contrast in school supplies or the struggle for basics. Others remember the whispered conversations about bills. Each response echoes the realities of life—that not all families are capable of living a comfortable life. In fact, in the survey conducted last year, around half of Filipino families still considered themselves poor despite the poverty rate dropping to 22.4% from 25.24

Helping more Filipinos achieve their dreams and break the cycle of poverty, the SM Foundation once again opens its application for the SM College Scholarship Program for Grade 12 graduates from public and private schools.

How to Apply for the SM College Scholarship Program?

Application for the SM College Scholarship is now ongoing until March 31, 2024. To apply, complete the application form on this link. Make sure to fill in all the required information, including Personal Information, Academic Background, College Plan, Family Background, and Annual Aggregate Family Income.

Also, attach to the online application the following requirements:

• Parent’s or Guardian’s Latest Income Tax Return/Certification of Non-Filing of Income/ Certificate of Indigency
• Latest Grade 12 Report Card
• Birth Certificate
• 2×2 ID Picture
• Sketch of home to the nearest SM Mall
  

How to Qualify for the SM College Scholarship Program?

1. The SM College Scholarship Program is open to Grade 12 graduates from public and private schools in areas covered around the Philippines.
2. Applicants from private schools must have a DepEd voucher and must be Grade 10 finishers from public high schools.
3. Applicants must have a General Weighted Average grade of at least 92% or its equivalent for Grade 12 in the first semester.
4. As this is aimed at helping the poor, the total household income of the applicant must not go beyond P250,000 per year.

After completing the online application, log in to the SM Scholarship Online System to confirm the application within seven days of submission. Note that the inability to confirm online will render the application void.

SMFI will then proceed with the assessment of the submitted application forms and documents. Applicants will receive an email notification regarding the status of application (e.g. “Declined” or “For Exam”). The schedule of the examination and venue will also be sent by email, with passers announced within the day.

After the examination, exam passers will then be interviewed by the SM Foundation on the same day. After that, a random home visit will be done to qualified applicants before getting the Confirmation of School and Course and schedule for Orientation and Contract Signing.
