“What do you want to be when you grow up?” This is a question often asked in grade school, sparking a kid’s dream of a better tomorrow, a brighter future. Yet, those dreams may seem far away for many of these students, prompted by the daily challenges of financial hardship.

According to the Philippine Statistics Office, about 18.6% of Filipinos aged 5 to 24 are not going to school, mainly due to the high cost of education and financial problems. In the last school year, the dropout rate in colleges and universities is at 35.15%. CHEd Chairperson Prospero de Vera III mentioned, “The cost of living has gone up, especially in many areas. We may need to review the needs of our students in universities.”

Sparking hope for these resilient children facing life’s adversities, especially those burdened by financial troubles, VICSAL Foundation, Inc. has been nurturing the dreams of the youth since 2007. The VICSAL Foundation College Scholarship Program empowers academically capable students from public high schools who lack the means to pursue a college education. These deserving students are provided with free tuition fees, monthly allowances, and additional benefits to sustain their educational journey.

How to Apply for VICSAL College Scholarship Program?

From 2007 until 2022, the VICSAL College Scholarship Program has been a beacon of support for 193 graduates, with an impressive 121 of them graduating with Latin honors. Presently, the foundation continues to empower 70 college scholars, and you can be one of them too!

You can now apply for the college scholarship for the school year 2024-2025! The application period is from February 1 to March 15, 2024. If you’re a graduating student from a public high school with a general average of at least 88% and no grades below 80%, apply now. Other qualifications include:

• Has good moral character and possesses leadership skills.
• Annual Gross income of both parents/guardians must be at most P300,000, or for a family with a single earner, it must be not more than P150,000.
• Must not accept any other scholarship grants while enlisted in this scholarship.

What Are the Benefits of the VICSAL College Scholarship Program?

VICSAL College Scholars will enjoy the following benefits:

• Full payment of tuition fees and other school fees per semester billed by the Accounting Office
• Monthly allowance of P2,500
• Book allowance of P3,000 per semester
• Graduation fee reimbursement of up to P2,000 for scholar-graduates

What are the Requirements for Application?

To apply for the VICSAL College Scholarship Program, applicants must secure and submit the following documentary requirements:

• Birth Certificate
• Senior High School Report Card (indicating at least Grade 12 first semester grade)
• Good Moral Certificate
• Parent’s or guardian’s latest BIR Income Tax Return or BIR Tax Exemption Certificate for non-taxable income earners
• Barangay Clearance
• 2×2 Colored Picture

Place all requirements, including the application form, in one folder and submit them to any Metro Gaisano Retail Stores c/o Customer Service Center, Metro Fresh and Easy-Customer Service Center, or Scholarship Offices of USC, USJR, and CIT-U.Note: Make sure to submit ONLY the certified true copy/photocopy of the documents required.
